The destruction and disruption caused by t…hese events started to be addressed by the construction of embankments along the river throughout the 19th Century; however, the embankments were not a long-term or complete solution to the flooding. The author provides meteorological and hydrological data over many years, and uses this to demonstrate that the floods could not be controlled by embankments alone. This book details a sophisticated engineering project that was embarked on to control flooding caused by the frequent inundation of the River Wien that has historically caused severe damage to structures and property in Vienna and its suburbs. The destruction and disruption caused by these events started to be addressed by the construction of embankments along the river throughout the 19th Century; however, the embankments were not a long-term or complete solution to the flooding.
