Il fut réélu le 1er juin 1863 dans la même circonscription. Rapporteur de la commission de l'emprunt de 300 millions de 1864, il signala l'aggravation constante de la dette publique. Il se présenta dans la 1ère circonscription des Basses-Pyrénées (Pau), vacante, et fut élu le 4 novembre 1865. La même année, il devint maire de Pau. La chute de l'Empire le rendit à la vie privée. J'aurais pu faire précéder ces renseignements d'un aperçu de l'art de composer des verrières ; mais mieux que moi, vous savez monsieur, toutes les difficultés que présente cet art, le véritable secret des anciens. Nos moyens sont tellement absolus, tellement limités, qu'il faut mille combinaisons pour n'être pas entravé par la matière rebelle au nombre des difficultés inhérentes à la peinture vitrale, il faut ajouter les exigences de notre époque, car maintenant on veut conserver du jour pour lire les livres d'office tandis qu'autrefois le chapelet s'arrangeait parfaitement du mystère des admirables roses de nos cathédrales gothiques". Galimard liste les difficultés de son art, pour séduire le public. "Avec les vitraux, il faut séduire le charme de la couleur et cependant ne pas fatiguer la vue. C'est là aussi une des conditions des tableaux des coloristes ; mais moins absolument peut-être que dans les verrières, où le clair-obscur ne vient pas, comme dans les tableaux, aider à harmoniser les tons trop éclatants. La perspective aérienne n'était pas du ressort de la peinture vitrale, on doit éviter de représenter plusieurs plans. C'est ici que l'art du bas-relief devient nécessaire [.]". Auguste Galimard réalisa les cartons des vitraux de l'église Saint-Laurent, dans le 10e arrondissement de Paris, à partir de 1846, qui seront réalisés par le maître-verrier Ernest Lama de Nozan.
