Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. 2016 OUP hardcover edition. Light reading wear else very good condition. Political Rationale and International Consequences of the War in Libya focuses on the international intervention in Libya in 2011, and tries to answer two broad questions; (1) What was the political rationale for the various actors to proceed as they did in the lead-up and conduct of the military intervention in Libya?, (2) What are the consequences of the UN-authorized military intervention in Libya? R2P was the public raison d'être of the war, and an important legitimizing factor of the intervention. Still, the humanitarian situation was a necessary, but not in and by itself an adequate precondition for intervention. A number of factors coalesced to enable the intervention. While the humanitarian situation triggered the intervention, in reality a variety of national interests governed the approach by the various international actors, and more often than not, these motives were not rooted in the particular circumstances in Libya. The book offers a combination of unique perspectives. While the perspectives of the US, France, and the UK on the Libyan Crisis/War have been well documented, the Arabic and Scandinavian political and military dynamics have been much less so. While the perspectives of NATO, the UN, and R2P have been debated, the view from the Arab League and African Union (AU) have been less in focus. The volume redresses that imbalance and offers the most broad-ranging analysis yet of a key moment in recent international relations. Contents: Part I. The UN Veto Powers' Perspectives US Intervention in the Libyan Civil War: Are There Lessons to be Learned? - Tom J. Farer The War in Libya: The Political Rationale for France - Francois Heisbourg The UK Political Rationale for Intervention and its Consequences - Christina J. M. Buch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - This book examines the role of airpower in the great power rivalry between the United States (US) and the People's Republic of China (PRC) in the East and South China Sea over Taiwan. While the volume emphasizes the role of the US and the PRC, it also looks at the other regional powers with significant airpower capabilities. By including key actors heavily invested in the regional dynamics between the two great powers, this book offers new research on how each actor views the use of airpower to enhance its regional political, military strategic, and operational leverage. The first two parts of the book focus on the PRC and the US, with each part considering (i) their grand strategy in the region, (ii) their military strategy to handle a future conflict over Taiwan, (iii) the role of airpower to this end, and finally (iv) their approach to Multi-Domain Operations or Joint All-Domain Operations. The third part looks at the most dominant regional powers with significant airpower capabilities: Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, and Australia. Finally, the fourth part examines influential alliances in the region: first the relation between Russia, China, and North Korea (DPRK); then NATO and finally The Quad, including Australia, India, Japan, and the US. The volume will help readers better understand the complex and dynamic strategic and military context of this region, and how airpower can be used to enhance the political, military strategic and operational leverage of the various actors in the East and South China Sea.This book will be of much interest to students of strategic studies, air power, Asian politics, and International Relations.…
