Cloth. Condición: Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. First Edition. First edition, 1975: the University of California Press issue of the Basil Blackwell edition, the title page and copyright page both dated 1975 with no later printing statement, printed in Great Britain. Hardcover in olive cloth with bright gilt spine lettering, in the original pictorial dust jacket housed in a mylar protector. A withdrawn university library copy, and plainly marked as one: a barcode label at the foot of the spine and a second to the front endpaper, a Gaylord date-due pocket with its card still in place, the call number and shelf stamps struck through in black marker, a large 'W/D' inked across the card, the call number repeated in pencil at the head of the contents page, and library stamps across the top and fore edges of the text block likewise obliterated. Two brown adhesive stains from old tape show on the front board, with matching rust bleed-through to the endpaper, and the top edge is age-toned with scattered foxing. The cloth spine itself is excellent - bright, unfaded and square, the gilt crisp, with no lean and no fraying at head or tail - the binding is tight, and the text is clean apart from light pencil markings. Ex-Library.…

Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. A very presentable copy with minimal wear. Dust jacket is fully intact. All pages clean, crisp and fresh. Publisher's note: "Concern with memory permeated Roman literature, history, rhetorical training, and art and architecture. This is the first book to look at the phenomenon from a variety of perspectives, including cognitive science. There is no orthodoxy in memory studies and the approaches are both empirical and theoretical. A central issue is: Who and what preserved and shaped cultural memory in Rome, and how did that process work? Areas and subjects covered include the Romans' view of the changing physical fabric of the city, monuments (by etymology related to memory) such as the Arch of Constantine, memory and the Roman triumph, Roman copies of Greek sculpture and their relation to memory, the importance of written information and of continuing process, the creation of memory in Republican memoirs and Flavian poetry, the invention of traditions, and the connection of cultural and digital memory. The ten chapters present original findings that complement earlier scholarship from the perspective of memory and open up new horizons for inquiry. The introduction by volume editor Karl Galinsky situates the work within current studies on cultural and social memory, and the concluding chapter by Daniel Libeskind provides the perspective of a contemporary practitioner. Additional contributors include Richard Jenkyns, Harriet I. Flower, T. P. Wiseman, Karl-J. Holkeskamp, Gianpiero Rosati, Diane Favro, Jessica Hughes, Anna Anguissola, Lisa Marie Mignone, and Bernard Frischer"-- Size: 29 x 22.5 x 2.3 cm. 193 pp. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo.
