Añadir al carritoTrade paperback. Condición: Very Good. Alfred Stieglitz (January 1, 1864 July 13, 1946) was an American photographer and modern art promoter who was instrumental over his 50-year career in making photography an accepted art form. In addition to his photography, Stieglitz was known for the New York art galleries that he ran in the early part of the 20th century, where he introduced many avant-garde European artists to the U.S. He was married to painter Georgia O'Keeffe. "Alfred Stieglitz (1864â??1946) is perhaps the most important figure in the history of visual arts in America. That is certainly not to say that he was the greatest artist America has ever produced. Rather, through his many roles â?? as a photographer, as a discoverer and promoter of photographers and of artists in other media, and as a publisher, patron, and collector â?? he had a greater impact on American art than any other person has had.".

Añadir al carritoSoftbound. Condición: VG-, crease in rear cover. Wraps. 157 pp. 559 bw plates. In addition to the illustrations, there are four indexes to them. Reproduces every image chronologically (excluding advertisements). A terrific reseource. "Only examples of such work as gives evidence of individuality and artistic worth, regardless of school, or contains some exceptional feature of technical merit, or such as exemplifies some treatment worthy of consideration, will find recognition in these pages." Alfred Stieglitz kept the promise he made in the first issue of Camera Work. The fifty numbers of this famous and lavishly illustrated periodical, which he edited and published between the years 1903 and 1917, contained some of the finest examples of photography and modernist art. The magazine chronicled the introduction of modern European art into America and was a major force in the fight to have photography accepted as a medium of artistic expression. This volume reproduces chronologically all the photographs and other illustrations (except for advertisements) that ever appeared in Camera Work. Marianne Margolis has written an extensive historical introduction about Stieglitz and the magazine, and prepared three complete indexes of the pictures by title, artist and sitter.--From publisher description.
