Henri Markarian, better known as Marc Aryan, was a French-Belgian singer, songwriter, and record producer of Armenian descent born as a French citizen, who also acquired Belgian citizenship after a long residency in the country. Marc Aryan was born to Lebanese Armenian parents who came from Malatya, Turkey. Henri Markarian initially released materials under the personal label Markal. He then changed the name of the label to Malatya where his parents came from. He recorded several songs for an album released in Brussels. With initial success, Henri Markarian decided to adopt the stage name Marc Aryan (derived from the pronunciation of his Armenian family name Markarian). After the successful years 1964 and 1965 locally, the years 1966 and 1969 proved to be his most prosperous years internationally. Marc Aryan enjoyed great popularity in the Middle East, particularly in Lebanon and Syria, where he also sang some songs in the Armenian language and in Eastern Europe and Latin America. He had some commercial success in Quebec, Canada's predominantly francophone province. Marc Aryan visited Turkey where his parents originated from. His success was huge after his release of the oriental-themed "Istanbul", one of his best-known hits that became an instant classic in Turkey. He also released a number of re-arrangements of his biggest hits in the Turkish language, following the example of famous European artists who had done the same as Salvatore Adamo, Johnny Hallyday, Sacha Distel, Enrico Macias, and Peppino di Capri. Turkish language versions in his album Istanbul'da include 9 songs including "Yalancisin", "Dünya Dönüyor", "Kalbin Yok Mu?" and others. The Turkish lyrics were mostly written by Fecri Ebcioglu. The book features Russ Myer (King of the Nudies); David F. Friedman (Sultan of Sleaze); Herschel G. Lewis (Godfather of Gore); Harry H. Novak (Wizard of the Box Office); Doris Wishman (Grand Dame of Gimmick); Robert Lee Frost (Duke of Sadism); A.C. Stephen (Prince of Confidential) and their lusty and buxomy stars: Lorna Maitland, Erica Gavin, Tura Satana, Babettte Bardot, Pat Barrington, Marsha Jordan, Uschi Digart, Rene Bond, Sgaron Kelly, Dyanne Thorne, Chesty Morgan, Kitten Natividad and many more! Friedman wrote the Foreword to this book and has a chapter dedicated to him. Friedman [1923-2011] was a regional marketing man for Paramount Pictures and sensed the money in independent distributing. He started his own company in the 1950s, which mainly produced so-called nudie-cutie films that came close to the legal limits for pornography at the time. This trend was followed by the sexploitation and ?roughie? genres, depicting simulated sex with a more violent edge, often horror- or crime-related. Friedman went on to produce in the 1963 film "'Blood Feast," an American exploitation film often considered the first "gore" or "splatter" film. Books signed by Friedman are uncommon. This copy is the first edition in a series of different ?Bizarre Sinema? books published between 1995 (this edition) and 2009. Signed.

To an unnamed recipient, probably concerning his efforts to reach a journalist at Le Petit Journal in an unspecified project: "J'ai fait demander à Beauduin, au Petit Journal, à plusieurs reprises. Je n'ai jamais pu le voir. [.] Enfin hier, j'ai pu mettre un de ses collègues au courant de nos désirs. Mais je n'ai pas grande confiance dans le résultat de cet entretien. Il me vient une idée. J'ai un ami très sérieux et très serviable au Petit [.]".

Manuscripts for the second volume of his memoirs "Ma route et mes chansons", which is subtitled "Londres, Hollywood, Paris" and was published in 1947 by Éditions Julliard. - The ensemble consists of 18 chapters, of which 17 are typed and one is handwritten. Compared to the published work, three chapters are missing: the introduction "Je vais sur mon chemin", chapter XV "La Petite Marcelle", and XVIII "My American Best Pote". - The first typed manuscript comprises 13 chapters bound in wrappers and 4 loosely inserted chapters. The end of the chapter entitled "It Was So Beautiful" is lacking (the last three pages have been removed with scissors). There are numerous small autograph corrections in blue ink, and an autograph page in pencil inserted. - The second typed manuscript is identical to the first, but was corrected by another hand in red pen. The end of chapter "It Was So Beautiful" is also cut out from this volume, but inserted loosely. - The autograph manuscript is entitled "Des souvenirs et des roses" (chapter XIX of the published work) and bears corrections in red pen from the same hand as the corrections in the second typed manuscript. Chevalier remembers his time in America: "Allongé sur une chaise longue - au milieu des autres voyageurs, l'horizon me semble un écran de dimensions gigantesques, où défilent des foules de visages et où des scènes, des sketches s'interposent comme si, au moment de remettre pour de bon les pieds dans mon pays, la mer américaine avant de les engloutir, tenait à me les faire bouillonner, sautiller dans mon cur, devant les yeux. Comme un immense lot de souvenirs à triller, à choisir. Comme des artistes qui viennent saluer à la fin d'une représentation pour se rappeler à la mémoire du spectateur et pour venir quêter leur petite part d'applaudissements. Tous ces visages, Maurice, ont été des visages estimables, et il est juste qu'ils laissent en ton "toi-même" des traces de ce qu'ils ont ajouté à ton jugement des hommes et des femmes [.]".
