Binding is tight and square. 213, [1] pages illustrations, VI plates ; 22 cm. . . . . . . A practical educational manual published in 1926 by Frederick A. Stokes Company in New York. Aimed at teachers and students in school settings, the book serves as a hands-on guide to introducing young people to the crafts of printing and bookmaking. It emphasizes the value of these activities not just as technical skills, but as creative and educational tools that develop patience, precision, and artistic appreciation. The book includes a foreword by J. J. Findlay. Findlay was Findlay was a leading figure in progressive education during the early 20th century. He was particularly interested in educational theory and practice, strongly influenced by the ideas of Johann Friedrich Herbart. He advocated for the integration of theory with hands-on teaching methods and supported modern approaches like demonstration schools and child-centered learning. In clear, instructional prose, Goodyear covers topics such as setting up a basic school print shop, typesetting by hand, simple presswork, paper selection, basic bookbinding techniques, and related decorative crafts. It reflects the early 20th-century interest in manual training and the Arts and Crafts movement's influence on education, encouraging students to engage directly with the physical processes behind books rather than treating them as finished products. The volume remains a charming snapshot of progressive educational methods from the 1920s.…
