Fabricius war zweifacher Rektor der Universität Rostock und Leibarzt des dänischen Königshauses. "Faber: Dr. Jacob F. (Fabricius), ein Sohn des Bäckermeisters und Mitgliedes des Collegiums der Hundertmänner Heinrich Schmidt, wurde zu Rostock am 28. August 1576 geboren, besuchte die Schulen dort und zu Lüneburg, studirte seit 1595 zu Rostock Medicin, später zu Leipzig, wo er poëta laureatus wurde, und hielt sich dann vier Jahre lang bei Tycho de Brahe [WS 1] in Uranienborg auf der Insel Hven auf. Hierauf durchreiste er Holland und England, promovirte 1602 zu Jena und ließ sich als praktischer Arzt in Rostock nieder. Am 17. Januar 1607 ernannte ihn die verwittwete Herzogin Sophie von Mecklenburg zum Leibarzt, am 10. Juni 1612 der Herzog Adolph Friedrich zum Professor der Medicin und höheren Mathematik an W.
