Pub Year 2009, See images for condition. About the book >.>.> Inge Morath: Iran is a compelling photographic collection by renowned photographer Inge Morath, accompanied by text from foreign correspondent Alan Moorehead. This book documents Morath's journey through Iran and beyond, as she fulfilled her long-held dream of traversing the Silk Road, a historic trade route connecting Europe to Asia. Her travels took her to various countries including Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Syria, and Israel in March and April of 1956, which represented a notable professional achievement for Morath.Within the pages of this collection, readers are introduced to Morath?s extensive imagery, resulting from over 5,000 exposures captured during her travels. The photographs not only illustrate the landscapes and cultures she encountered but also serve as a personal reflection of her experiences along this storied route. Morath's unique perspective as a self-declared frugal photographer enriches the visual narrative, providing an intimate glimpse into a pivotal moment in the region's history. This book not only showcases Morath's artistic talent but also invites readers to explore the complexities of the places she documented. The synergy between her visuals and Moorehead's text creates a profound reading experience, offering insights into the allure and mystique of the Silk Road, while highlighting Morath's significant contributions to the field of photography. Inge Morath: Iran stands as a testament to her legacy and dedication to capturing the essence of the world through her lens. (OS).

Hardcover. Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fine. 1st Edition. 1st edition 2009. Pristine hardback copy in Fine jacket, very slight creasing to top of spine. "In 1956, Inge Morath traveled to the Middle East for Holiday magazine where she wore the traditional chador and traveled alone most of the time. Moraths subjects range from politics to religion and from work to commerce; from the Shah's palace to the nomad's tent to the Zoroaster's sacred shrine. Morath entered deeply into the culture of the places she visited and the lives of the people she photographed in order to document, as she noted, "the continuity - or lack of it - between past and present." She photographed Iran with the fine vision of an anthropologist, examining religious rituals, costuming, work, sport, music, art, and theatre. Morath's work in Iran presaged her later work in Spain, China, and Russia, creating an extensive document of the clash between modernity and tradition in the post-war world. Retrospectively, Inge Morath: Iran recalls a land and a culture that has been profoundly transformed since the Iranian Revolution of 1979. It is a window into the past which provides a unique perspective on Iran in the present." 25.4 x 3.05 x 32.51 cm. *OVERSEAS SHIPPING NOTE ~ HEAVY-BOOK RATE!
