One of the leaders of the revival of wood-engraving in the 1920s, Gibbings was for nine years director of the Golden Cockerel Press. The first part of the volume is a descriptive bibliography of the 67 books illustrated by Gibbings; and the second lists chronologically his work as artist, writer, printer and publisher, and also records some publications containing references to his work. There is a note on the printing methods of the Golden Cockerel Press, contributed by A C Cooper who was pressman throughout the period of Gibbings' direction.
