Volume Six Contains Tragedies. Romeo and Juliet, Timon of Athens. Hamlet. King Lear. Othello. Pericles and Titus Andronicus. In the Romantic and Victorian eras the spelling "Shakspere", as used in the poet's own signature, became more widely adopted in the belief that this was the most authentic version. From the mid-19th to the early 20th century, a wide variety of spellings were used for various reasons; although, following the publication of the Cambridge and Globe editions of Shakespeare in the 1860s, "Shakespeare" began to gain ascendancy. Although 'Shakspere is used throughout these six volumes the name beneath the frontis portrait to Volume One is shown as Will. Shakspeare. Ref III 1.

Hinge and text blocks firm, no inscriptions or book plates, green end papers. Closed pages edges rough cut. Engraved illustrations throughout each volume. Some volumes' bindings are showing more wear, some pulling at spine heads, volume XII has half inch splits at each side of the spine head and Volume V has a longer split here. The pages are browned but generally smooth and clear, there is the odd incident of brown spotting, there are some ink blotches to one or two pages in Volume XII. It is overall a nice, tidy complete set. May incur additional postage charges overseas.
