Frederick R Chichester, who wrote predominantly under a pseudonym, was a prolific writer of novels in the nineteenth century. Despite the great number of novels he wrote, his works are rarely seen for sale. This work muses on poverty and the class system in England, and illustrated Chichester's charitable disposition and dedication to social reform, for which he was well known. In half calf bindings. Externally, sound with some rubbing, particularly to the head of the spines. Lacking spine label to volume II. Rear hinge strained to volume III. Front hinge strained after title page to volume II with page 3/4 detached but present. Front hinge strained after endpaper to volume I. Personal bookplate of Francis Ravenscroft to front pastedown of all volume with library number label from personal library. He is enclosing £25, 'yr verry [sic] moderate account & with many many thanks for all yr frieship [sic] & sincere regards'.
