A detailed examination of the various steam locomotives utilized by the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad along their routes in Colorado, Utah and New Mexico. Beginning in about 1870, the railroad sought to provide passenger and freight service through the rugged Rocky Mountains, often using narrow gauge locomotives and cars.
