Soft Cover/Stapled. Condición: New. Estado de la sobrecubierta: None as Issued. Number 140, September 1980. Text/NEW & Bright. Softcover/Fine. Scholarly history of boomtown Tombstone, Arizona. Sept.,1980, No.140, quarterly issue of The Branding Iron, the Westerners, Los Angeles Corral.16 pgs, w/archival photos & line drawings. "The Terrors of Tombstone as Seen First-Hand" by medical historian Dr. Earl F. Nation, M.D. (1910 - 2008), who gave us the biography of Dr. George Emery Goodfellow (1855 - 1910), known as the "Gunfighters' Surgeon" of the Wild West, being medical doctor to U.S. Marshals Virgil & Wyatt Earp at the O.K. Corral. When Edward Lawrence Schieffelin (1847 -1897) came to this semi-arid mesa, he concentrated on locating & identifying stone, a soldier/friend told him all he could expect to find were but tombstones --- so, when Schieffelin struck silver, he named his mine "Tombstone"! The town of Tombstone, formally established 1879, "boomed" with house newspapers, saloons, gambling halls, brothels, and home to outlaw Cochise County Cowboys who brought in stolen Mexican cattle --- all vying for control, culminated in the historic 1881 shootouts between law ( Earp brothers Wyatt, Virgil & Morgan & their friend Doc Holiday) , against conflicting parties, at the O.K Corral. A challenging moment in social, economic & political was upset by major fires (1881 & 1882) that destroyed many historical newspaper & personal records of the day. For this study, Dr. Nation put to use private diaries kept by George Whitwell Parsons (1850 - 1933) during his post-Earp,1879 -1887 residence in Tombstone.
