Measures 2 3/4" x 4 1/2" x 1". Scuffing and wear to binding but reasonably clean. Rubbing at edges and on hinges and chipping to paper. Bumped and torn corners. Binding reasonably firm. Page edges contain some scuffing and marking, and a degree of fading to marbling pattern. Inscription to free endpaper prior to Goldsmith work and signature to endpaper prior to Johnson. Some page corners dog-eared. Top edge of page 65 of Hamond and Hervey has had the top piece cut off. Some foxing, staining and other marking throughout, with a little ink blotching to initial front endpapers of book, but no underlining, marginalia, etc. 70, 65, 110, 64, 94 pp. 1806-8.

Weatherhead & Son, Ltd 58 Kingsbury Square, Aylsbury", FFEP has also been re-laid and hinges thin with stringing just showing a little the original mottled calf and small morocco label is rubbed but all firm, contents in the main very good and clean. Small octavo. Note* The "Fables of Flora" (1st published in1771) have the novel approach of using interactions between plants to deliver moral lessons. A popular moralistic pseudo-oriental tale, first published in England in 1762, in which Langhorne's "chief delight is to moralize and philosophize in a gentle and leisurely fashion" and which "advances slowly because frequently broken by generalizations, by descriptions of places… like the 'frowning' ruins of Persepolis and emotions aroused thereby, and also by digressions on the state of literature and manners in England . On the whole, although the story is stiff, tedious, and over-moralistic, it has an attractive kind of purity and sweetness like the fragrance from an old-fashioned garden." - Conant, The Oriental Tale in England in the Eighteenth Century, pp. 99-100 Disbound (i.e. lacking covers) but otherwise in decent sound condition with clean text. Suitable for rebinding or reading and reference.
