Condición: New. x, 88, 61 col figs, 3 maps. 320x210mm. HB. NEW. . Provides an up-to-date account of the world's largest butterfly, bringing together what is currently known about the species from scientific papers, reports, notes, original letters, interviews with Government officers and anecdotal evidence. Sections on discovery…, life cycle, distribution and conservation. The book is intended to provide a better understanding of the species' ecology and promote further research, supporting conservation and management. Due to the insects very restricted range and foodplant restrictions, among other reasons, this species, one of the most charismatic worldwide, is in serious danger of extinction. This book forms the basis of an appeal for funding to a total of $250,000 to fund a captive breeding programme. If successful, the plan proposes the establishment of up to 3 large breeding cages in different locations stocked with foodplants and nectar flowers. Adults will be paired, and females encouraged to lay eggs in captivity before being released in areas of suitable habitat to supplement the existing wild population.**£5 from the purchase price of each copy sold will be donated towards the appeal for funding the captive breeding programme. **. Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Near Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good Minus. 1st Edition. Stated First Edition. This book is in very nice condition. The covers, hats off to the dust jacket, look very good. They are exceptionally clean. I don't see any soiling. The gilt lettering on the spine is nicely bright. The bottom edge of… the spine has a small area of color fade. The cover edges and corners look nearly perfect, no rubbing. The page edges are very clean. The book is square and the spine is straight. The binding is very solid from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The white inside covers and end papers are very clean. That accurately describes all the pages in the book. Scrolling through, I'm not finding any instances of soiling. I'm also not finding any conspicuous creasing, any creasing at all. There are no markings in the book. No attachments of any kind. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. There are a great many illustrations throughout, mostly drawings, charts, some photographs. They are all in excellent condition. The dust jacket has done fairly well for itself. The spine is toned. There are two spots of soiling on the front cover. You can see the small loss at the top edge of the front side of the spine. It doesn't reached the lettering. There is one light stain on the spine, and there is a thin, inconspicuous, tear off the bottom edge of the rear cover. The flaps are in nice shape. They each have a thin strip of toning/tanning off their top and inside edges. There are no tears or creases. The bottom corner of the front flap is neatly clipped, presumably removing the price. I've always had this jacket in a fitted protective cover. From the dust jacket: 'An important aspect of much scientific development is that, while progressing in its own field, it is also exerting influence on both theoretical and practical work in other fields. Instrumentation is a case in point for it has made considerable advances in its own right whilst also being applied more and more extensively in other fields. The author here provides material for a course of study and practical work which will be extremely valuable to graduates in medicine and biology. The book deals with principles of medical and biological instrumentation, and with practical features of its design and construction. This provides a valuable basis of understanding between the scientific workers on the one hand and the technician and the engineer on the other hand. It will also serve for the scientific worker, particularly those in medicine and biology, as an introduction to methods of maintenance and design, although of course it will not qualify him as a technician or engineer. A feature of the book is the emphasis on transistorized circuits, which have certain important merits and have in fact made possible the routine investigation of many previously inaccessible physiological phenomenon. A set of practical exercises, which can be carried out with the minimum of equipment, are included at the end of each chapter. The book has been written for a post-graduate course in medical electronics and instrumentation. It is suitable for use in university or senior college of technology level or for private study.'.
