Illustrated with window-mounted color mezzotint frontispieces on fine paper by S. Arlent Edwards, each signed by him in pencil, and 12 plates, all with lettered tissue guards. Bound in publisher's original cream-colored cloth with gilt scripted titles and gilt tooled crowns with blue accents to spines and front covers. In very good condition overall. Bindings are hinges are iuntact and firm. Each volume bears a small engraved bookplate to free front endpaper; the first volume also has a brief ink inscription above the bookplate. Otherwise, contents are clean and bright with no other markings or signs of prior ownership. The frontispieces have a cream-colored mat or frame made of a sturdier stock of paper; in the second volume, this frame is present, but detached from the plate, and missing a 1-inch portion on one side. The plate itself remains in excellent condition. Covers are in very good condition with some minor shelf-wear or rubbing to board corners and spine ends. The cloth is clean and the gilt ornamentation is fresh and bright. All in all, this is a very attractive copy of the limited edition set. Both volumes are now protected in new custom-made clear archival dustwrappers.…
