Founded in 1780, the London bookselling firm of John and Edward Bumpus had a royal warrant and stayed in business into the 20th century. The firm contracted binding out to various prominent London firms such as Riviere, Zaehnsdorf, Sangorski & Sutcliffe, etc. so the aforementioned Bumpus stamp is, in actuality, a retailer mark rather than a bindery mark but its presence is still indicative of premier London work.
