The text first entered British consciousness in French translation shortly before the French Revolution, and appears here in its first English translation, A Picture of England. According to Cox, Archenholz, a notable anglophile, did 'more than any other man to present a complete picture of England to Germans'. The original German edition was published in 1785, and was translated into French in 1788. This Dublin printing was probably translated from an abridged French edition published in either Paris or Brussels. Contains many notes on contemporary politics and life in the theatre Page 169 is numbered correctly.
