Collated complete.A binding stamp from Leighton Son and Hodge on final leaf. Contains original advertisements from publishers on final pages.Originally a series of papers on the natural history of the coast, Fraser was urged to publish the papers as a book. Rather than simply being a book to teach, it aims to engage readers with the sea shores by looking at the fascinating creatures which help make it. Finished only two years after Darwin's Natural Selection, Fraser subtly avoids delving into the evolutionary debate.In its third edition, the book later became the more popular 'The Seaside Naturalist', with revisions and more illustrations.
