David Wooster was a practicing physician in Adrian, MI who departed in March 1850 for the gold fields of California via St. Joseph, MO. During his time in Adrian, he was acquainted with the Jermain Brothers who published the Expositor newspaper and became their "regular correspondent" on what was going on in the California gold fields until March 1855 when he gave up on gold and moved to San Francisco to resume his medical practice. His newsy letters tell of his journey to California, his life in the gold fields, the ups and downs in the lives of the prospectors, their finances, and the risks involved in that way of life. A clean very presentable copy.
