Der geborene Franke Crusius (Kraus) war seit 1554 Rektor der Lateinschule in Memmingen bevor er 1559 eine Professur für lateinische und griechische Sprache an der Universität Tübingen erhielt, er gilt als "Vorkämpfer des Philhellenismus in Europa" (NDB III, 433 nach Zachariades). Der Herausgeber Johann Jakob Moser (1701-1785) aus Stuttgart gilt mit Johann Stefan Pütter als der bedeutendste Staatsrechtler des alten Reiches. Neben der Biographie Crusius' und der Fortführung der Chronik bis zur Gegenwart (Band II, S. 485-738) ist besonders seine "Bibliotheca scriptorum de rebus Suevicis" bemerkenswert, eine teils kommentierte Bibliographie "von mehr dann tausend gedruckt- und ungedruckten Schrifften, welche Schwaben gantz oder zum Theil angehen". Petzholdt urteilt: "Ist, obwohl hier und da etwas oberflächlich, doch im Ganzen für ihre Zeit höchst schätzbar" (Bibliotheca bibliographica 819). - Kaum fleckig, wenige kleine Knickspuren, Innengelenke leicht aufgeplatzt (Bindung stabil), Titel beider Bände mit kleiner Stempeltektur, die vorderen Innendeckel mit altem Besitzvermerk und modernem Exlibris (Bibliotheca Gutekunst).
