Soft cover. Condición: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Milwaukee: Die Hausfrau, 1930. The December (Dexember), 1930 issue of Die Hausfrau, "Monatsschrift fur die Frauenwelt Amerikas" (roughly, Monthly Review for the American Woman"). Text in German. Tall quarto, almost folio, illustrated stapled wraps, 58 pp. Cover - "Heimkehr vom Weihnachts - Markt" ("Returning From the Wine Market"), an enchanting flapper sophisticate with an armful of the Good Stuff - is by the estimable Edna Crompton; inside, a full-color illustration by Nell Hatt , "Ein Strenges Geheimnis" ("A Strict Secret") shows a very young lad whispering in his dog's ear. Near Fine; modest peripheral toning at covers and the original subscriber's pre-printed address are notable. Just moderate toning to the still-quite-supple interior pages. See scans. High Grade example. Published for German-Americans in the mid-20th century, but you don't have to be able to read German to appreciate the covers, the craft pages, short fiction, the frequent geographically whimsical articles, poetry, songs, and the excruciatingly home-y black and white photos in Die Hausfrau. This will take ya back. Well, depending on how old you are.Americana, in German. Crompton's engaging cover illustration is the equal of those on English language magazines of the era that bring much higher prices. Collector's condition. Please see all scans. Lpr6.
