Here he spent his childhood on the farm that his grandfather and great grandfather had wrested some sixty years before from the wilderness in the hills. Father always felt a strong attachment to the homestead on which his ancestors had labored, a sentiment that he hoped to pass on to his descendants. ~ His purpose in writing this book was twofold: to acquaint the children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren with his father, Oramel, and to picture for them life on a Vermont farm in the mid Nineteenth Century.
