Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book is a defence of the author's actions as the President of Mexico from 1855 to 1858, a period of incredible turmoil and violence. Within, the author sets out his plan to balance liberty and order through a period of reform as promised by the revolution of Ayutla. He discusses the obstacles he faced in his pursuit of these goals, particularly in the form of conservative opposition and the constant threat of violence. Despite not being able to enact all of his plans, this book argues that his careful actions prevented the worst from happening for the Mexican people during this tumultuous time in their nation's history. Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This historical and political text presents a detailed account of the 1857 imprisonment of General Juan B. Traconis and the author, Lic. J. de la Portilla, by the dictatorial government of Ignacio Comonfort after the victory of the Ayutla Revolution. Accused of embezzlement and mismanagement of church properties, the author provides first-hand insights into the complex political struggles of the time and the personal dynamics between him, Comonfort, and General Traconis. Through his narrative, the author not only defends his actions but sheds light on the challenges faced by the Mexican government in consolidating its authority, balancing the demands of different factions, and addressing the legacy of the overthrown dictatorship. The book offers a valuable perspective on a pivotal period in Mexican history, exploring themes of political intrigue, justice, and the struggle for stability in a nation grappling with the aftermath of revolution.
