Plain beige end papers sound but likely replacement - not recent. Ink gift insc. as above. Lacks one guard. Some finger soiling to a number of leaves and the occasional small marginal tear. Binding sound with no other notable defects).

Fine Asprey full leather binding (most likely executed by Sangorski and Sutcliffe or Zaehnsdorf), with gilt titles to the spine, a replica of the internal illustration of the Field Marshal in inlayed coloured leather, marbled end papers, all page edges gilt, gently tanned throughout, text block tight. Pagination: unpaginated with 24 colour illustrations as called for with 24 pages of text to accompany and paper guards. Provenance: no signatures or bookplates. Approximately 10 ½ inches (26.5cm) tall. Condition Report Externally Spine - very good condition - gilt titles to the spine, minor marks. Joints - very good condition - sound. Corners - very good condition - gently worn. Boards - very good condition - red morocco boards with inlayed leather decoration of the Field Marshal to the front board, gently rubbed, marked and worn. Page edges - good condition - all edges gilt. Binding - very good condition - attractive. See above and photos. Internally Hinges - very good condition - sound. Paste downs - very good condition - patterned. End papers - very good condition - patterned, tanned subsequently. Title - good condition - gently tanned, closed tear to the top of the page. Condición: Very Good. 212x245mm, 48pp, original cloth boards, upper board illustrated and title etc blocked gilt, slight split to bottom of upper spine, contents clean, some very light spotting in places, printed endpapers, front free endpaper missing, all plates present (some a bit frayed and chipped on edges), text decorations and line drawings, overall very good condition.
