Die Praxis auch der sozialtherapeutischen Einrichtungen ist dafür nur unzulänglich gerüstet. Die von Wissenschaftlern und Praktikern verfaßten Beiträge sollen helfen, diese Lage zu bewältigen. Im ersten Teil werden kriminologische und kriminalpolitische Probleme mit gefährlichen Straftätern aufgezeigt und die gesetzlichen Grundlagen sowie neue Theorien zur Diagnose, Behandlung und Prognose dargelegt und (kritisch) erörtert. Der zweite Teil beschreibt die Grundlagen behandlungsförderlicher Vollzugsgestaltung. Ferner wird gezeigt, wie Behandlung im Jugend- und Erwachsenenvollzug strukturiert sein kann und muß und wie sich dies zu den Ergebnissen der Wirksamkeitsstudien verhält. U.a. werden Trainingsmaßnahmen sowie kognitiv-behaviorale Behandlungsprogramme für Sexualstraftäter vorgestellt und die Bedeutung von Milieutherapie und Normalisierung für integrative Sozialtherapie analysiert. Der dritte Teil ist der Qualitätssicherung gewidmetZunächst geht es um das Verhältnis zwischen Verwaltungsreform und Therapie Stichworte Neues Steuerungsmodell, Budgetierung, Output-Steuerung. Es folgt ein aktueller Überblick über den Haftplatzbedarf in sozialtherapeutischen Einrichtungen sowie über Mindestkriterien, Wirkfaktoren und Indikationen. Im abschließenden Teil finden sich Beiträge zu theoretischen und methodischen Anforderungen an die Evaluation, zu Problemen und Chancen bei der Rezeption der Wirksamkeitsforschung sowie die Darstellung aktueller Forschungsergebnisse.
