This book explores the literary landscape of the Elizabethan revenge tragedy, a genre born in the sixteenth century and epitomized by plays like "Hamlet" and "The Spanish Tragedy." The author provides a comprehensive analysis of the genre's characteristics, from its preoccupation with themes of vengeance, madness, and morality to its use of soliloquies, scenes of violence, and supernatural elements. The book examines the historical and literary context of the revenge tragedy, exploring its roots in classical drama and its influence on later literary movements. Through close readings of key plays, the author unravels the genre's complex web of motivations, exploring the psychology of revenge and the moral dilemmas it poses. This book offers a fresh perspective on a significant chapter in literary history, shedding light on the genre's enduring power and its relevance to our understanding of the human condition. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book re-examines Geoffrey Chaucer's beloved poem The Parlement of Foules in light of its historical and literary context. The author argues that a contemporary political situation, rather than mere avian allegory, shaped the poem. The author suggests the poem's focus on a formel refusing the advances of three eagle suitors reflects the political climate of Richard II's court in 1381. A historical analysis of the political maneuverings around the marriages of Philippa of Lancaster and William of Hainaut supports this new interpretation. The author shows the poem to be an allegory about the role of a lower house of Parliament, represented by the birds, in opposing a match desired by the Crown. The innovative reinterpretation, evidence-based approach, and contextual insights presented by the author offer a fresh perspective on Chaucer's enduring work. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

This book examines the evolution of the sonnet as a poetic form, from its origins in the Italian Renaissance to its adoption and adaptation by poets in England. Exploring the works of renowned sonneteers such as Petrarch, Shakespeare, and Milton, the author demonstrates how the sonnet allowed poets to express complex emotions and ideas with remarkable precision, conciseness, and lyrical beauty. By tracing the development of the sonnet through different historical and cultural contexts, the book illuminates the ways in which this enduring poetic form has reflected the changing sensibilities and preoccupations of successive generations of readers and writers. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
