Per Spanish Wikipedia, Fernando Garrido Tortosa (1821 - 1883) Was A Spanish Politician And Writer. For His Early Political Pamphlets And Newspapers He Spent Fourteen Months In The Saladero Prison, Where He Met Castelar And Wrote The Pamphlet Democracy And The Elections Of May 10 . In 1851 He Was Pardoned, On The Condition That He Leave The Country. He Settled In London , Where He Represented Spain In The International Committee Of European Democracy, Which Included Mazzini , Kossuth And Ledru-Rollin , And Remained There Until The Revolution Of 1854 Allowed Him To Return To Spain. Upon His Arrival, He Printed A Pamphlet, Then Was Taken To The Saladero Again, Arraigned, And Appeared Once More Before The Jury. Garrido Was Unanimously Acquitted. The Latter Then Published The Newspaper Las Barricadas With Antonio J. Cervera , Which Did Nothing More Than Explain What Was Said In The Pamphlet. The Twenty-Eight Issues Of Las Barricadas Published Earned Him Twenty-Eight Cases, And He Was Acquitted In All Of Them.In The Pamphlet The Universal Federal Democratic Republic , Published In Lérida In 1855, Of Which Several Editions Were Sold Out, He Confirmed His Theories, And Another One Entitled Democracy And Its Adversaries Earned Him Exile To Lisbon ; Later He Miraculously Emerged Unscathed From The Summary Trial That Had Been Brought Against Him For Being Presumed To Be Involved In The Conspiracy That Cost The Life Of Sixto Cámara .After More Publications, Garrido Was Forced To Emigrate, First To Paris And Then To London.
