Brunet, I, 1625. Blake, p. 81. Waller, n. 1816. Choulant, Handbuch der Bücherkunde, pp. 424-425. Garrison & Morton, n. 6794.…

Añadir al carritoRilegato. Condición: molto buono. Venetiis, Apud Io: Baptistae Cestari, & Franciscum Bolzettam, 1642. In-8° (15,7 cm x 10,4 cm). Pp. (8), 348, (16). Segnatura: [p] 4, A-Z8. Tagli azzurri. Capolettera e fregi in xilografia. Carattere corsivo, greco e romano. (D.B.I.). Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book provides the meanings of an array of medical terms, presenting etymologies alongside discussions of the historical contexts and uses of the terms in the field of medicine. The author draws from Greek and Latin primarily, but also from Arabic sources, to explain the meanings and derivations of technical terms. By doing so, the book reveals the progression of medical knowledge from ancient times to the present, as well as the theoretical underpinnings of the field. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Añadir al carritoRare first Netherlands edition (1644) of a medical dictionary first published in 1598 but expanded in later editions, giving a description and symptoms of various afflictions. "Many medical dictionaries were published in this period. The most remarkable were . and the Greek and Latin lexica of Bartolommeo Castelli" (Garrison). Castelli (d. 1607) based much of his information on the works of Galen and Hippocrates. The main text is followed by a small dictionary translating some Arabic words into Greek and Latin, which can subsequently be looked up in the main text. Altogether an important and influential medical dictionary, functioning as main entry for doing research upon various diseases. Some small spots and thumbing throughout, and a few occasional user's marks in ink in the margins. Binding slightly damages and with some minor stains. Good copy.l Garrison, p. 279; Krivatsy 2221; STCN (3 copies); WorldCat (2 copies). Contemporary vellum. With Matthijsz's(?) woodcut device on title-page (a putto with garlands on his head and carrying a smoking torch, used with at least 2 different letterpress mottos, here "Aliis inserviendo consumor", which the famous anatomy professor Nicolaes Tulp had used in 1634), 2 woodcut pictorial initials with a sunburst background (N and Q) and a woodcut factotum with an open oblong (music?) book at the foot.
