Here is a full account of the journey that brought Carney to his first Honduran parish in 1964. Traveling by mule, horse, jeep, and foot, he ministered to the banana workers in the valleys, the landless campesinos on the hillsides, and the Indian tribes high in the mountains. Working with the eighty thousand campesinos of the national peasant union, ANACH, Carney spoke out against the U.S. exploitation, political corruption, and military cruelty that perpetuated the economic slavery of the poor.
