La presente è "la prima eseguita in Olanda, presumibilmente dagli Elzeviri" (cfr. Raccolta Tassiana Bergamo n. 216 e 219). Del Camilli non si hanno notizie bografiche precise. Nacque e visse nella regione di Siena ed Arezzo nel XVI secolo. I Cinque Canti nacquero dall'esigenza di rispondere all'osservazione pedantesca che accusava il Tasso di aver lasciato senza risoluzione degli episodi particolari della Gerusalemme.
