Paperback. Condición: New. From Amelia Island just south of Georgia to Key West's southern tip, beaches are one of Florida's greatest assets. Yet these beaches are in danger: rapid structural development on a highly erodible coast make them vulnerable to some of nature's greatest storms. The same development that has been driven by the attraction of beautiful beaches and coastal amenities now threatens those very resources. In turn, coastal structures are at risk from sea-level rise, shoreline retreat, winter storms, and hurricanes. Most of the methods for reducing losses associated with storms protect property only in the short term-at a growing cost in dollars and loss of natural habitat in the long term.Living with Florida's Atlantic Beaches is a guide to mitigating or reducing losses of property, human life, and natural resources by living with, rather than just at, the shore. This illustrated volume provides an introduction to coastal processes and geology as well as a brief history of coastal hazards and short-sighted human responses. This is the first volume in the Living with the Shore series to discuss the significant long-term impact of dredge-and-fill beach construction on living marine resources. Guidance is provided for long-term risk reduction in the form of tips on storm-resistant construction and site evaluation; maps for evaluating relative vulnerability to hazards are also included. A brief review of coastal regulations will help property owners understand and navigate the various permit requirements for developing coastal property. Living with Florida's Atlantic Beaches is an invaluable source of information for everyone from the curious beach visitor to the community planner, from the prudent property investor to the decision-making public official.…

Hardcover. Condición: Like New. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fine. First Edition. Inscribed "God Bless You Bill Moss" on attached bookplate. Signed copies rarely offered. Part memoir and part inspirational reader, It's Never Too Late details William Moss's journey (1920-2017) from small-town Texas to a stint in Hollywood (as an actor and producer, known for The Big Cat, Kilroy was Here, and Let's Go Steady), and onward to the height of business successes in Texas and New York, and at the center of political power in Washington, DC. Late in life, however, the endless martinis in exclusive clubs come to feel empty, and the author begins to align his life closer to God, culminating in finding the love partner of his life and later realizing, at the age of 85, that he is an alcoholic. So begins his road to recovery. Having turned around his life, the author not only offers his story, but thoughts, inspirational prayers, and scriptures that have helped in his journey and that will prove useful for anyone in recovery. William Moss was born Odessa, Texas in 1920. He has acted in Hollywood films, founded a television production company, helmed The Petroleum corporation and William Moss Oil corp., served on the Board of Trustees and several other committees at American University, and, among numerous other political roles, served as chairman of former President George H. W. Bush's Drug Advisory council. Signed by Author.…

Hardcover. Condición: Very good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very good. Format is 10.25 inches by 11.5 inches. Decorative dust jacket. 90 minute DVD present. Glossary of military Terms; xxiii, [1], 295, [1] p. Illustrations. Peter Anthony Dale Collier (June 2, 1939 - November 1, 2019) was an American writer. With David Horowitz, Collier wrote many books that made The New York Times Best Seller list and was described by the New York Times Book Review as "the premier biographer of American dynastic tragedy." His book Medal of Honor: Profiles of Valor Beyond the Call of Duty (2003) profiled then living recipients of the Medal. The president typically presents the Medal of Honor at a formal ceremony intended to represent the gratitude of the American people, with posthumous presentations made to the primary next of kin. First published on Veteran's Day 2003 to glowing reviews, energetic cross-country events, and instant national bestseller status, Medal of Honor has now been revised, updated, and augmented into an even more important and newsworthy second edition. New features include: A multimedia DVD rich in historical footage and first-person reflections of these ultimate acts of courage Full coverage of 22 additional Medal recipients by National Book Award nominee Peter Collier. Heart-rending new portraits by award-winning photographer Nick Del Calzo Introductory essay by Victor Davis Hanson, military history scholar and author of A War Like No Other, The Western Way of War, and The Soul of Battle. The 116 living Medal of Honor recipients fought in conflicts from World War II to Vietnam, serving in every branch of the armed services, and here is their ultimate record. The Medal of Honor (MOH) is the United States Armed Forces' highest military decoration and is awarded to recognize American soldiers, sailors, marines, airmen, guardians and coast guardsmen who have distinguished themselves by acts of valor. The medal is normally awarded by the president of the United States, but as it is presented "in the name of the United States Congress", it is sometimes erroneously referred to as the "Congressional Medal of Honor". There are three distinct variants of the medal: one for the Department of the Army, awarded to soldiers, one for the Department of the Navy, awarded to sailors, marines, and coast guardsmen, and one for the Department of the Air Force, awarded to airmen and guardians. The Medal of Honor was introduced for the Department of the Navy in 1861, soon followed by the Department of the Army's version in 1862. The Department of the Air Force used the Department of the Army's version until they received their own distinctive version in 1965. The Medal of Honor is the oldest continuously issued combat decoration of the United States Armed Forces. According to the Medal of Honor Historical Society of the United States, there have been up to the time of publication 3530 Medals of Honor awarded to 3,511 individuals since the decoration's creation, with over 40% awarded for actions during the American Civil War. In 1990, Congress designated March 25 annually as "National Medal of Honor Day" Second, expanded edition. Sixth printing [stated]. Nick Del Calzo (Photographer) (ilustrador).…
