Añadir al carritoUnframed Photograph Print. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition. An alabaster and marble monument to Lord Burghley (d.1598), praised as one of England's finest Renaissance tombs. Charles Latham was one of the most influential architectural photographers of the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, renowned for his evocative images of country houses and formal gardens across Britain and Italy. His work helped define the visual language of architectural publishing and preservation. His first major commission was for J. Alfred Gotch's Architecture of the Renaissance in England (1894), from which this photograph is taken, where his collotype plates captured the texture and grandeur of Elizabethan and Jacobean houses with remarkable clarity. Latham later helped shape the visual identity of Country Life magazine (which we always have in stock), photographing both historic estates and newly built homes. His images became central to the magazine's appeal, combining editorial elegance with technical innovation in print reproduction. Each of Charles Latham's architectural photographs captures a singular moment of craftsmanship, patronage, or domestic ambition, from heraldic chimney-pieces to formal garden fronts. Whether collegiate, civic, or aristocratic, these buildings speak to the stylistic confidence of their age. Many remain inhabited, studied, or preserved today, making each image not just a historical record, but a quietly resonant portrait of continuity. Published in 1894, this fine Victorian-period image has been carefully removed from Gotch's monumental work. Printed in Leipzig, Germany, by Sinsel & Co., on thick, cream-coloured paper, this image reflects the firm's hallmark clarity and tonal depth, featuring the building's name in sepia ink below a ruled border, with Latham's beautifully composed black-and-white photograph taking centre place. POSTED ROLLED. Size: 34 x 47 cms. Category: Architecture; English Country House Photographs; J. Alfred Gotch's Architecture; Charles Latham Photographs. Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good+. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good+. First Edition; First Printing. In turquoise-green cloth-covered boards with bright gilt titling to the spine. Top edge is a (dulled) light green, and the remaining page fore-edges are very lightly 'toned' with some very light 'spotting' (pale small foxing) - fairly negligible and overall clean. In the original dust-jacket which has some surface wear/small chips/scrapes to the head/tail of the spine, and some general light edge-wear with some small losses mainly to the bottom edge. These small faults have been repaired to the rear of the dust jacket with archive tape, and there has been an attempt to colour in where the losses have occured but the d/j is now in a new protective clear - removable - bookfilm plastic cover and looks pretty good. A former owner's name and address in ink nest to the remains of an old price sticker on the top of the inner front flap of the d/j. Inside the book, however, there are NO Inscriptions or major marks, a little light yellowing/offsetting to the endpapers but generally internally this is a VERY clean, tight and bright copy. (xii) + 308 pages Plus the full page illustrations (unpaginated) = 57 pages of b/w photographs, and 20 b/w diagrams/line drawings in the text. The Achilles Club chose a team of 19 to write this book - each man has written a chapter on his particular event - these athletes include 5 Olympic Champions and 5 Olympic finalists. Also Chapters of General Interest by people like H. M Abrahams and E. A. Hunter, etc. Overall a VG Plus copy in a Good Plus dust jacket. See Images. ; Modern Sports. Edited by Howard Marshall; 8vo 8" - 9" tall.
