Very Good with slight crushing to foot, light rubbing to joints and soiling to covers, trivial offsetting at endsheets, and faint musty scent to contents. A sizeable monograph from the German photographer containing Bukowski's poem "Click, Click.," made in production for an exhibition at Gabriel's Court in New York. Montfort met Bukowski in 1977 for a magazine cover photoshoot and brought along a bottle of wine in hopes of winning the notoriously difficult poet over. Montfort's strategy worked and they soon became close friends, collaborating for almost two decades until Bukowski's death in 1994. Krumhansl 134a. Eight preliminary and four terminal leaves (11" x 12.75"), with text letterpress printed in red, black, and blue, together with 18 bifolium gatherings, each containing a letterpressed poem, with an original black & white photograph on the opposing page. All housed in an iridescent maroon Asahi cloth clamshell case, titled in black and metallic red, with a black & white photograph of Bukowski inset behind a die-cut window on the front cover. Contents Fine. Clamshell case is very Near Fine, with one very faint bump at upper front corner; slipcase is shelfworn and slightly scuffed, but sound; Very Good+. An exquisitely produced monster of a publication, printing 18 previously unpublished Bukowski poems, coupled with photos Joan Gannij's "Hank & Georgia" series. While not called for, a previous owner has laid into this copy a photocopy of Bukowski's typescript poem "American Literature II" which appears in this volume, bearing Bukowski's holograph signature in black pen at lower margin, dated 7-28-80.
