Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Near Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. 1st Edition. THE PARTY THAT LOST ITS HEAD: THE REPUBLICAN COLLAPSE AND IMPERATIVES FOR REVIVAL, George F. Gilder and Bruce K. Chapman, hardcover with unclipped dust jacket, stated first edition, 1966. BOOK CONDITION: near fine. The text block is in fine condition, with no tears, dogears, or marks. No bookplate but the mark of a prior owner is stamped on the first free endpaper. Not a library book or remainder. The red boards are in very good condition (slightly bumped spine). The dust jacket is in good condition (chipping and crinkling edges, age-toned interior, discolored spine). 8 ½ x 6, 341 pages, 20 ounces XX [From the dust jacket flaps] In a candid, hard-hitting book that will provoke both anger and thoughtful consideration, two young Republicans have written the first thorough study of the real problems that face the party. A lively, inside account of the GOP's warring factions and contesting personalities, THE PARTY THAT LOST ITS HEAD also advances a comprehensive program for its revival. George F. Gilder and Bruce K. Chapman have a strong commitment to the Republican party, but they believe the party is best served in time of crisis, not by passive loyalty, which would permit future catastrophes, but by vigorous and constructive criticism. The authors trace the gradual Republican breakdown to the illusions and oversights of the Eisenhower years, and show how The Rampant Right, although a minority, drove Goldwater to the nomination over the limp body of moderate Republicanism. They point out that the trends which led to the Goldwater nomination were merely interrupted, not arrested, by the 1964 election. They conclude with a severe but hopeful critique of the Republican paralysis of today. As progressive Republicans, the authors believe that the party's prime need is an ideological identity distinct from the Democrats' and responsive to the real needs of the country. They show that the nation's apparent acceptance of an obsolescent Democratic ideology is largely the result of the Republican failure to present sound and relevant alternatives. Recognizing that the Republican party is the conservative party in the United States, they set down a program which is aimed largely at current Republican weaknesses - among youth, the intellectuals, and the urban voters - but which also is faithful to Republican traditions and is in the nation's interest. In addition, Gilder and Chapman point the way, in ideology, organization, and political strategy, for a moderate Republican to gain the party's Presidential nomination in 1968. XX George F. Gilder was born in New York in 1939 and graduated from Harvard University in 1962. He was editor of Advance Magazine from 1960 to 1964. He has held a junior fellowship from the Council on Foreign Relations and is now an associate editor of The New Leader. A native of Illinois, Bruce K. Chapman was born in 1940. He received a B.A. from Harvard University in 1962. He was publisher of Advance Magazine, of which he was a co-founder, from 1960 to 1964, and is now an editorial writer for the New York Herald Tribune.

Añadir al carritoFirst edition of this work by the award-winning author. Octavo, original cloth. Association copy, inscribed by the author to fellow writer William F. Buckley on the front free endpaper, "For William Buckley with a credit for early stylistic inspiration George Gilder." Some notes in Buckleyâs hand, near fine in a very good dust jacket. The author, George Gilder worked for many years at the National Review, the political magazine founded in 1955 by William F. Buckley. Buckleyâs thinking has loomed large on Gilder, with the latter writing in regards to God and Man at Yale, ''it is still correct and prophetic. It defines the conservative revolt against socialism and atheism on campus and in the culture and reconciles the alleged conflict between capitalist and religious conservatives." An exceptional association linking these two seminal figures of conservative thought. George Gilder worked for many years at the National Review.
