Topics such as marriage, burial, religion, housing etc are discussed and special attention is given as to how various customs and beliefs have survived until today in European countries, especially Italy. The language used in the book is slightly old fashioned as are some of the references as the book was written in the 60s. The author, however, exhibits a thorough understanding of the culture and history of both Rome and modern day Europe. Contents in 13 Chapters: The Home, Furniture, The Household, Matrimony, Birth and Childhood, Clothing, Gods, Daily Life, Social Life, Amusements, Travel, Street Life, and Burial.
