Like many contemporary female writers, they published their poems and novels under male pseudonyms: Currer, Ellis, and Acton Bell, originally. Their stories attracted attention for their passion and originality immediately following their publication. The illustrators are different in each work and issued from 1964 to 1970, each volume a first printing.
