Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Can we be optimistic about the future of Europe To what extent has the European integrationist project affected the discourse about the core and the (semi-)periphery Why does the European Union struggle with its own, and the neighbouring, Other These are some of the questions addressed in this thought-provoking volume about the dilemmas surrounding the ever-uncertain European unity. A wide range of contributors have drawn upon invaluable sources and data to examine a broad selection of official discords and discrepancies characterizing the EU's relations with the Balkans, East-Central Europe, and beyond. Moreover, past events have shaped present political and socioeconomic cooperation (or its deficiencies), with no reason to believe that these present challenges will not further influence future arrangements at a supranational or intergovernmental level. Whichever the period, questions of belonging, solidarity, and the (un)wanted Other have remained relevant and have continued to penetrate discussions. In addition to complementing the existing analyses of European developments, the present findings are of great relevance for researchers, policymakers, and general readership. In fact, they are essential if we want to see Europe develop.

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This volume sheds new light on the interaction between Turkey and the Western Balkans. Written from a multidisciplinary perspective, the contributions decode the essence of bilateral relations by analyzing various aspects of regional diplomacy, including official initiatives for cooperation and the impact of different interstate exchanges. In addition to the political aspect, the book highlights the economic dimensions of Turkey's involvement in the Western Balkans, by exploring trade linkages and prospects for future partnership arrangements. Finally, socio-cultural components of bilateral relations are examined, with some contributors focusing on the role of art, religion, and cultural heritage in Turkish foreign policy toward the Western Balkans. While providing detailed analysis and reflections on Turkey's direction and policy preferences, this unique collection appeals to scholars of international relations, Balkan and Turkish studies, and other neighboring disciplines, as wellas to policymakers and general readership interested in the region and international collaboration.

Buch. Condición: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Official relations between the then European Community and the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia were established in 1968. The two decades that followed were a period of great uncertainty, culminating in the late 1980s, with many Community officials being quite sceptical about the future of the Yugoslav federation. The Community's decision in early 1992 to recognize Slovenia and Croatia as independent states, leading to the disintegration of Yugoslavia, has inspired numerous diametrically opposed explanations of policy choices, often raising as many questions as they answer. This volume is a unique selection of valuable archival material dealing with different aspects of cooperation between the European Community and Yugoslavia. While offering a range of fresh insights, the primary sources presented here also contribute to a greater understanding of the ever-present dilemma regarding the survival of the former Yugoslav state.

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - In Researching Yugoslavia and its Aftermath, a common thread is the authors' path through the time and space context in which fieldwork has taken place. Accordingly, this collection tackles problems that have always existed but have not been dealt with in a single volume. In particular, it examines a range of methodological questions arising from the contributors' shared concerns, and thus the obstacles and solutions characterising the relationship between researchers and their objects of study. Being an interdisciplinary project, this book brings together highly regarded historians, sociologists, anthropologists, political scientists, cultural and social theorists, as well as experts in architecture and communication studies. They share a belief that the awareness of the researcher's own position in fieldwork is a precondition of utmost significance to comprehend the evolution of objects of study, and hence to ensure transparency and ultimate credibility of the findings. Moreover, the contributors come from diverse backgrounds, including authors from the former Yugoslavia and others who have made their way to the region after starting their research careers; some from universities in the area, others from institutions in the Global North. Here, they explore cross-cutting issues such as the repercussions of gender, nationality, institutional affiliation and the consequences of their entry into the field. This is examined in terms of the results of the research and the ethical aspect of the relationship with the object of study, as well as the implications of the chosen time framework in the methodological design and the clash between this decision and the interests of the actors studied.
