Very fine/issued without dust jacket. A clean tight unread copy, still in publisher's original shrink-wrap. 173 pages. Size: 10.50(h) x 9.50(w) inches. Sanford Biggers (b. 1970) is a Harlem-based artist working in various media including painting, sculpture, video, and performance. He describes his practice as code-switching mixing disparate elements to create layers of meaning to account for his wide-ranging interests. This catalogue focuses on a series of repurposed quilts (many made in the 19th century) that embodies this interest in mixture. Informed by the significance of quilts to the Underground Railroad, Biggers transforms the quilts into new works using materials such as paint, tar, glitter, and charcoal to add his own layers of codes, whether they be historical, political, or purely artistic. Several essays survey Biggers's career, his art in relation to music, and the history upon which the series draws. Also featured a graphic essay that introduces the layered meanings inherent in the art and craft of quilting. …

Hardcover. Condición: New. Small Quarto. Hardcover. Thick illustrated cardstock boards. 304 pages 17 cm x 23.5 cm. Text primarily in German, some English. Yoko Ono's progressive work and political activism have had a lasting impact on culture. Born in Tokyo in 1933, she is a pioneer of early conceptual and participatory art, film, and performance, as well as a celebrated musician and activist for world peace. An exhibition now opens at the Tate Modern in London, tracing seven decades of her innovative artistic practice from the mid-1950s to the present day. Music of the Mind was conceived in close collaboration with Ono's studio and will subsequently be on view at the Kunstsammlung NRW in Düsseldorf. The comprehensive catalogue accompanying the exhibition traces the development of a personality whose visionary spirit pushed boundaries and challenged conventions. Music of the Mind explores Yoko Ono's world, presents key moments in her career, and reveals the profound influence of her art on the collective consciousness of our time.…
