Añadir al carritoReprint (originally published 1945). [2], 108 pages. Staple-bound paperback booklet: H 17cm x L 12.75cm. Black paper covers; white lettering to front cover (the original edition had light blue lettering); white bordered b/w photo decorates rear cover; tear and small paper loss at spine head and adjacent front cover corner; other scuffs and nicks at cover edges and along spine fold. Blue ink mark at text block's top edge adjacent to spine; past owner's ink inscription dated 2014 at front free endpaper's top right with vertical band of toning along ffep's fore-edge margin; same owner's blue ink notes regarding fellow Tuscaloosan Major Bank and his family as well as concluding two lines regarding Norman Bassett comprising full verso of rear free endpaper; interior pages are otherwise clean. Rear cover recto has b/w portrait photo of Bert Bank and wife Gertrude Bank with the former looking to be in his late 50s-early 60s (so circa 1970-1975); booklet's paper quality and presentation seem to post-date the photo but certainly predate the aforementioned ownership inscription so a reprint guesstimate of 1980-1990. Another note as to differentiating reprints from first printings is that the latter have thinner stock paper which is quite susceptible to toning and foxing. Touch of rust to staples but binding is firm. An autobiographical account by United States Army Air Force Major Bertram "Bert" Bank in which he recounts his harrowing WWII experiences during the Bataan Death March and internment in a Japanese prisoner of war camp. Bank later served in the Alabama House of Representatives and Alabama Senate and was founder of the Alabama Football Radio Network. Includes a Foreword (pages 7-8) by The Tuscaloosa News Editor Norman H. Bassett. Description copyright David Hallinan, Bookseller. {WWII-Shelf#3-Paperback59}.

Black paper covers; white lettering to front cover (the original edition had light blue lettering); white bordered b/w photo decorates rear cover; minor scuffing at spine ends; faint staining to front cover. Past owner's ink inscription at bottom of front free endpaper with his "May 2002" notation at top left corner; at center of ffep is author's three-line ink inscription "Bert Bank | God Bless | America." Interior pages are otherwise clean. Rear cover recto has circa 1970s b/w portrait photo of Bert Bank and wife Gertrude Bank; title page verso has Regions Bank advertisement which, via mergers and acquisitions, was not a corporate name until 1994 (thereby establishing the earliest year possible for this reprint). While the booklet's paper quality is improved over earlier issues, the type is grainer implying photocopy reproduction. Binding is firm and, as a further note, this copy has a glued "perfect" binding whereas earlier issues were staple-bound. Bassett. Also present are three newspaper clippings regarding Bert Banks' passing: {#1} June 24, 2009 Tuscaloosa News Page 1A (i.e. front page) appreciation by Wayne Grayson; {#2} June 24, 2009 column by Tuscaloosa News sports editor Cecil Hurt; and {#3} undated and non-bylined appreciation presumably also from Tuscaloosa News.
