Bio taken from Findagrave Long-time local and area business woman Mrs. Berdie Steadman Fox, 88, died Thursday, Feb. 4, at the New Dawson Springs Nursing Home. Mrs. Fox owned and operated the Y Grocery east of Dawson Springs during the 1940s and '50s. She built in 1960, and owned and operated the Fox's Nursing Home (New Dawson Springs Nursing Home. She was born Aug. 27, 1910, in Etawah County, AL, daughter of the late John Franklin and Emma Jeffreys Steadman. Mrs. Fox was married to Jess Fredrick Fox 23 Mar 1929. He died Feb. 9, 1971. Mrs. Fox was an avid quilter, gardener, and genealogist. Among her many accomplishments was a well researched genealogy of the Fox and Steadman families published in 1987. She was a faithful member of the Ilsley Christian Church for 73 years and assisted in establishing a perpetual care fund for the Ilsley Cemetery. She was an active member of the Dawson Springs Business and Professional Women's Club and was a Kentucky Colonel. Mrs. Fox was also preceded in death by her parents; sons, Michael and Harold; three sisters and a brother.
