Cloth paint spattered and marked, spine ends and corners scuffed, tears to edge of spine, inscription to ffep, pages tanned but generally clean and firmly held - a study copy only.

Reprint (we believe that the first edition was in 1912). vii, 280pp., frontispiece and 11 other black and white illustrations. Robert Stanley Warren Bell (1871-1921), was an English novelist, journalist and the first editor of The Captain. He contributed stories to The Captain, and also wrote school stories for boys. The book is bound in the original green cloth covered boards with titling and an illustration of a football player on the spine and an illustration of rugby players on the front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling to the boards. The spine is faded with bumping to the ends and there is also fading along about 1/2" of the top and spine edges of the rear board. There is some bubbling to the cloth on the bottom half of the rear board. The contents are tight and clean apart from a few small marks and there is foxing on the fore edge of the text block. On some pages the foxing has seeped a little way into the fore margin. The fixed endpapers have an 'X' mark written on them and a name and date (1920) has been written on the front free endpaper.
