Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Although the idea that existing policies can have major effects on politics and policy development is hardly new, the last three decades witnessed a major expansion of policy feedback scholarship, which focuses on the mechanisms through which existing policies shape politics and policy development. Starting with a discussion of the origins of the concept of policy feedback, this element explores early and more recent contributions of the policy feedback literature to clarify the meaning of this concept and its contribution to both political science and policy studies. After exploring the rapidly expanding scholarship on policy feedback and mass politics, this element also puts forward new research agendas that stress several ways forward, including the need to explain both institutional and policy continuity and change. Finally, the element discusses the practical implications of policy feedback research through a discussion of its potential impact on policy design. Gordon Lecture Series Fund was established in 1976 for the purpose of financing an annual series of lectures on contemporary Canadian themes and of publishing each annual series. The Fund is temporarily administered by The Canada Studies Foundation, 252 Bloor Street West, Toronto, Ontario M5S 1V5. Printed in Canada 1980 by Omnigraphics Inc., Toronto, Ontario. EXCERPT: INTRODUCTION The fourth volume of the Walter L. Gordon Lecture Series deals with a subject - the Computerized Society - that has profound and even alarming implications for Canada. Cheap, small, powerful computers are reaching into every sector of the economy, introducing automation and change on a scale unmatched by any previous technology. Yet there is little public awareness of the fundamental nature and scope of the changes taking place and the public policies required to protect our economic, cultural and even political interest . . . The three lectures taken together leave one with an uncomfortable feeling about Canada's ability to exploit the opportunities and offset the adverse effects of the new technological order. To the extent they stimulate discussion and hopefully action, they will achieve the purpose of the friends of Walter Gordon in establishing the Lecture Series. - Beland Honderich, Chairman and Publisher, The Toronto Star. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: new. Paperback. Burying Babies. Escape Strategies. Luring Romance. Marge doesn't want to be a nun, and God knows she has plenty of reasons never to become one. Too bad fate has other ideas for her future. Escaping convent life, darkly kept secrets and the hidden deeds of the not so holy, holier-than-thou sisters, is her number one priority. Well, that and marrying Bob, the man of her dreams. True Romance magazines feed her romantic daydreams of an idyllic life. In love, married, safe and secure. Freedom from archaic rules strictly imposed under the guise of religion and punishments meted out with a heavy hand. Poor Marge is always on the receiving end of the nun's idea of just penance. Head strong and constantly at odds with the nuns, Marge bends, but refuses to break. Disturbing acts abound behind the convent walls, and Marge is caught in the middle, forced to take part. Her best friend Dorothy, innocent and unaware, has no idea of the drama she faces from day to day. But, no matter how much trouble Marge gets into, Dorothy stands by her side. Even when Marge is caught in a compromising situation with another woman's man; Bob, Dorothy's aunt's boyfriend. Marge has chosen her means of escape, and the man. Can she convince him to marry her? Can she convince those who wield power over her life to give her, her freedom? Will blackmail persuade them to let her go? Another Reason I Don't Want to Be a Nun is the first book in a series. If you like dark drama, romance and humor then you will like D R Beland's look at a young girl's strategies to get what she thinks she wants. This item is printed on demand.
