AUTHOR: Vincent O'Sullivan (1868-1940) was an American-born expatriate author, poet, and critic who spent his adulthood operating on the fringes of the European literary avant-garde. Independently wealthy during his early career, his creative mission centred on exploring the darker, cynical corners of human psychology, adopting the stance of a wealthy lone wolf detached from both American commercialism and mainstream Victorian morality. This socio-economic freedom allowed him to finance his own aesthetic pursuits and maintain a quiet, influential presence within London's fin-de-siècle inner circle, earning the deep respect of contemporaries like Arthur Symons and Ernest Dowson. Spines fade…d to brown, top edges dull, very slight shelf-wear to spine-tips. Contents clean and bright, a very attractive set. The four frontispieces are taken from the celebrated Beardsley edition of Morte D'Arthur, first published between 1893 and 1894.
