Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. 2nd Printing. The book has sound hinges and does not lean. Pages are clean and bright without creases, marks, stains or wrinkles. There is a single 1/8" spot near the bottom edge of the back cover, otherwise the brown cloth covers are completely clean. The gilt lettering on the book's spine is slightly faded but still entirely readable. None of the book's corners are bumped. The book's dust jacket is price-clipped. It is very clean with a few light scratches and rub marks. There are a few stress lines or light creases near the top edge and some small chips and tears along top and bottom edges. Still in publisher's shrink-wrap, unopened and unread. Illustrations by Richard Syzk. No wear or damage whatsoever. Beautiful Easton Press edition in full black leather with 22K gilt lettering and design on the covers and spine, 22K gilt outer page edges, barred spine, silk moire end pages and satin page marker. Unbound. Condición: Fine. Color photographic print copies of two photographs taken at James Baldwin's Funeral. Each is approximately 13¾" x 9½". Produced by a commercial processor, with computer generated production notes in the bottom margin, and dated 17 years after the fact in 2004. Neatly Signed by the photographer, African-American artist and author Ted Pontiflet ("Pontiflet") in lower right corner in fine point gold sharpie. Fine. The funeral was held at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York in 1987. The first image depicts four mourners: Borough President of Manhattan (and later New York City Mayor) David Dinkins, Amiri Baraka, Maya Angelou, and Toni Morrison emerging from the service understandably distraught. Baraka, Angelou, and Morrison had each given eulogies at the service. The second image depicts six pallbearers carrying Baldwin's coffin down the steps of the Cathedral, where it was reportedly accompanied by the thunderous drumming of the Nigerian percussion master Babatunde Olatunji. Well-composed images of an important moment in time.
