Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book follows the life of Charles James Fox, one of the most remarkable men of his time. His rise to prominence within the political world was marked by his high level of intellect, wit, and sharp oratorical ability that made him a formidable opponent to those he stood against. Fox's private life was in stark contrast to his political career, and the author provides an intriguing look at the indulgent and lavish lifestyle he lived. The work offers an opportunity to further understand how these drastic differences in one man's life could coexist, and how Fox navigated the delicate balance between his personal and public personas. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. vi, [1], 8-244p. Late 19th century quarter calf over paper covered boards with marbled end papers. Red and green labels on the spine. I also have a defective copy of this title that has a title page variant which I have been unable to confirm whether it is documented in bibliographical records. This particular copy posted has the phrase "To which is added the Character of Mr. Fox by R. B. Sheridan". This title page also lists the following publishers underneath 'New York'; "Printed for E. Sargeant, 39 Wall Street; R.B Hopkins and Co, WM P. Farrand; Philadelphia: and Geo. Hill. Baltimore. 1807. Printed by D & G Bruce". The other title page does not include the notation referencing Sheridan, but instead includes a quote from Shakespeare "I must not think. There are evils enough to darken all his goodness; His faults in him seem as the spots of heaven, More fiery by night's blackness". In addition, all the publishers listed underneath 'New York' except for E. Sargeant, 39 Wall Street has been omitted. The text blocks are otherwise the same. One can possibly argue that the second title page showing just E. Sargeant is a second issue for a more limited market . Title page is attached at the inner margin to the front blank. Paper partially browned with sporadic foxing throughout. A couple of leaves from the preface replaced from another copy.Small tear in the front marbled end paper. From the Library of Princeton Publisher Edward M. Crane with his bookplate on the inside front board. Front hinge cracked, but holding firm.

Añadir al carritoHard Cover. Condición: Fair. No Jacket. E. Sargeant, 1807. Hard Cover. No dust jacket. Cover is worn in many places, with tears to the spine which expose the binding. Pages are fairly delicate and very heavily foxed, with occasional underlinings and marginalia. Very slight water damage to a few pages. Binding is slightly shaken, and the hinges are cracked. This well-aged book would be a good reading copy, or even a candidate for repair and rebinding.
