Hardcover. Condición: new. Hardcover. Nailfold capillaroscopy allows non-invasive assessment of the finger microvasculature. At the nailfold, capillaries run parallel rather than perpendicular to the skin surface, allowing their structure to be visualised under magnification. The main clinical indication for nailfold capillarosco…py is the assessment of the patient with Raynauds phenomenon (RP). Normal nailfold capillaries are reassuring, consistent with primary (benign) RP, whereas abnormal capillaries (dilated capillaries, reduced capillary density) raise suspicion of an underlying systemic sclerosis-spectrum disorder. Although the significance of abnormal nailfold capillaries was recognised over 50 years ago, only within the last 20 years has there been a surge of interest in capillaroscopy, fuelled by the recognition that abnormal nailfold capillaries are an independent risk factor for development of systemic sclerosis and by abnormal nailfold capillaries being included in the 2013 classification criteria for systemic sclerosis. The increased interest in nailfold capillaroscopy is evidenced by capillaroscopy courses of the British Society for Rheumatology and of EULAR being over-subscribed.This textbook is aimed primarily at rheumatologists diagnosing connective tissue disease (i.e. the majority of rheumatologists) and who undertake/wish to undertake nailfold capillaroscopy. The book is also of interest to scientists with an interest in the microvasculature. It provides an authoritative guide which allows the reader to feel confident in their clinical practice, and to understand the background to nailfold capillaroscopy and its ongoing potential. Topics discussed include the indications for nailfold capillaroscopy, how to acquire and interpret images (including the different methodologies), capillary abnormalities found in different connective tissue diseases (especially systemic sclerosis and dermatomyositis), progress in quantitative and automated analyses, and capillaroscopic research. Finally, a series of case histories is presented to put into context the role of capillaroscopy in diagnosis and in predicting risk. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Raynaud's Phenomenon: A Guide to Pathogenesis and Treatment comprehensively reviews the understanding of a disorder that continues to challenge primary care clinicians and specialists alike. In the last decade, there have been important advances no…t only in understanding the pathophysiology of Raynaud's Phenomenon (RP), but also in developing diagnostic methods and effective drug and non-drug therapies. Thoroughly discussing the various manifestations of RP, including childhood RP, RP secondary to connective tissue disease, and a variety of other associated disorders that include vascular perturbation that mimics RP, this title provides a wealth of new information available on normal and abnormal thermoregulation and helps physicians identify the best therapeutic approaches to treating RP. The work offers differential diagnosis options, reviews potential causes such as autoimmune disease, industrial trauma, drugs, and metabolic causes and provides clear recommendations for therapy. Engaging readers with case vignettes and a plethora of visual aids, Raynaud's Phenomenon: A Guide to Pathogenesis and Treatment is a state-of-the-art, authoritative reference and invaluable contribution to the literature that will be of interest to physicians, patients, and individuals dealing with these disease processes.

Hardcover. Condición: new. Hardcover. This book comprehensively reviews the understanding of a disorder that continues to challenge primary care clinicians and specialists. Raynauds phenomenon is an inappropriate and exaggerated response of the digital and cutaneous circulation to cold environmental temperatures. It is common, o…ften causing significant morbidity and it is a major challenge for physicians at every level and specialty. A comprehensive review of Raynauds is now timely because of the incredible progress in understanding the molecular mechanisms of the normal regulation of cutaneous blood flow and how disease can disrupt the function of these specialized vessels. Likewise, the clinical implications of Raynauds phenomenon are better appreciated with studies defining its prevalence, the associated diseases, and new treatment approaches for patients suffering from it. The nomenclature used to classify cases has changed over the years and is important to understand these terms both for clinical care andresearch. This fully updated second edition comprehensively discusses various causes of Raynauds phenomenon including childhood Raynauds phenomenon, Raynauds phenomenon secondary to connective tissue disease, occupational causes, and a variety of other associated disorders. Careful consideration is given to the diagnosis of Raynauds phenomenon with state of the art discussion of nailfold capillary examination, non-invasive imaging, angiography, and appropriate serological testing. The concept that Raynauds phenomenon is associated with systemic disease or can be the manifestation of a systemic vasospastic disorder is also presented. In addition to reviewing both non-drug and drug therapy for patients with Raynauds phenomenon, this volume provides a practical approach in specific clinical situations by presenting problematic cases and the authors expert opinions on therapy. It also discusses mechanisms contributing to the vascular dysfunctionof primary Raynauds phenomenon and the vascular disease of secondary Raynauds phenomenon.Engaging readers with case vignettes and a plethora of visual aids, Raynauds Phenomenon: From Pathogenesis to Management is a state-of-the-art, authoritative reference and invaluable contribution to the literature that will be of interest to adult and pediatric physicians, rheumatologists, and clinical and basic researchers. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.
