Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Brand new softcover book! ; In the book's Introduction President Ivins writes: "In justification of the attitude assumed [Goodwin] severely criticizes the fundamental doctrines upon which the Mormon Church rests. He holds up to ridicule the character of Joseph Smith, who was the instrument in the hands of the Lord in the opening of the present Gospel Dispensation. He objects to the interpretation of the scripture as contained in the standard works of the Church and declares that it was the prophet's knowledge of Masonry which prompted him to write the Book of Mormon and organize the Church. He endeavors to prove that the ordinances administered in Mormon temples are copied from the ceremonies of Masonry. "It is obvious to one familiar with the subject that 'Mormonism and Masonry' is simply another of the many abortive attempts which have been made to explain the calling of Joseph Smith, and the opening of the Gospel Dispensation of the Fulness of Times by other means than the direct interposition of God our Father, and Christ our Lord, His Only Begotten Son. "It is the purpose of the writer of this reply to discuss the relationship of Mormonism and Freemasonry in a spirit of fairness and truth, to answer the criticisms of Mr. Goodwin, and leave Masons and Mormons and others who are not affiliated with either organization to decide whether the attitude assumed by the author of the booklet referred to is well taken."; 5" x 8"; 219 pages.…

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Brand new softcover book! ; In 1925, a booklet was published by the Grand Lodge F & M of Utah entitled: "Mormonism & Masonry" authored by S. H. Goodwin, P. In the book's Introduction Elder Ivins writes: "In justification of the attitude assumed [Goodwin] severely criticizes the fundamental doctrines upon which the Mormon Church rests. He holds up to ridicule the character of Joseph Smith, who was the instrument in the hands of the Lord in the opening of the present Gospel Dispensation. Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: As New. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Vintage, Like New Hardback - as shown, 1st Edition, 1st Printing, Signed inside front cover (see pic 3) by President Heber J Grant and first Presidency The book titled ""Relationship of Mormonism and Freemasonry"" written by Anthony W. Ivins is a comprehensive study of the similarities and differences between the two religious movements. The author delves into the history, beliefs, and practices of both Mormonism and Freemasonry, tracing their origins and development over time. The book explores the connections between the two groups, examining the influence of Freemasonry on the early Mormon Church and the ways in which the two movements diverged over time. Ivins also discusses the controversies surrounding the relationship between Mormonism and Freemasonry, including accusations of plagiarism and the role of secret rituals and symbols in both groups. Throughout the book, Ivins draws on primary sources and historical documents to provide a nuanced and detailed analysis of the relationship between Mormonism and Freemasonry. The book is an essential resource for anyone interested in the history of these two important religious movements and their impact on American culture and society.1934. The purpose of this reply is to discuss the relationship of Mormonism to Freemasonry in a spirit of fairness and truth, to answer criticisms of S.H. Goodwin, and leave Masons and Mormons and others not affiliated with either to decide whether the attitude assumed by Goodwin is well taken. It is addressed primarily to members of the Masonic fraternity and the author asks that the reader consider this treatise with a spirit of fairness and reason. Signed by Author(s).…

Hardcover. Condición: Fine. Limited edition. 687pp. Octavo [23.5 cm] Gray cloth with light green printed cloth panels. Orange endsheets and pastedowns. With a frontispiece portrait of Anthony W. Ivins. Includes an index. Volume in the acclaimed Signature Books diary series. This edition is limited to five hundred copies, of which this is copy number 193. Anthony W. Ivins (1852-1934) migrated to St. George, Utah, at age nine where he later became an influential civic and ecclesiastical leader. He married Elizabeth A. Snow, daughter of apostle Erastus F. Snow. Ivins was a first cousin of Heber J. Grant, and served as his counselor while Grant was LDS president. Ivins filled several Mormon missions to Mexico and presided as the Juarez, Mexico stake president where he performed post-manifesto marriages. He was appointed by the U.S. government as an Indian agent, and was warmly acquainted with Porfirio Diaz, president of Mexico. Involved in politics in St. George, Ivins held aspirations of running as a Democrat for governor of Utah. In 1907, he was ordained an apostle and later advanced to the First Presidency. Tone, as he called himself, was an accomplished horseman who worked with, and invested in, livestock. He was a game-hunting cowboy who became a statesman for both his country and his expanding religious community. Though in his correspondence Ivins expressed paramount concern for members of his family, he rarely mentions them in his journals. Rather, his diaries chronicle his business and religious observations including meetings with the Quorum of the Twelve and others. He records meetings of the apostles where decisions were made to remove Church leaders from office who had entered into polygamy after 1904, and details the Church's dealings with the Mexican government to safeguard the Mormon colonists. There are also discussions where doctrinal principles were clarified. For example, in 1912, Ivins reported that President Joseph F. Smith addressed Brigham Young's Adam God teachings and affirmed that it was "not a doctrine of the Church." Ivins clearly loved the ruggedness of outdoor life, as evidenced in his passion for hunting, but was also intrigued with the curiosities at the Utah State Fair, the entertaining showmanship of Buffalo Bill, and the refinement of the theater. Tragedy became commonplace as he recorded vigilante-like justice against Indians and Mexicans who were killed for stealing food, and witnessing the execution of John D. Lee, a once favored son of Mormonism. Appendices of Cowpboy Apostle include Ivins Record Book of Marriage and an essay by Ivins son, H. Grant Ivins titled "Polygamy in Mexico as Practiced by the Mormon Church, 1895-1905.".…
