Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: new. Paperback. The poems in this collection respond to the failed institutional responses to child sexual abuse as detailed in the Australian Royal Commission report handed down in 2017. The poems reflect the writers own background in the Roman Catholic tradition and her situation as a settler on stolen First Nations lands and the related institutional failures in both cases. Poet and researcher Anne Elvey was part of a group of four whistleblowers who approached the Vicar-General of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne more than three decades ago about the behaviour of a parish priest, now deceased, whom the diocese has since accepted was serially abusing children. In these poems, a sense of the sacredness of matter stands alongside lament for the loss of church as a community because significant church leaders did not honour the sacred in the communitys own most vulnerable members. (C)loud begins with lament, then explores the poets experience of being part of the problem and her increasingly fraught relationship to an inherited tradition of Roman Catholicism. The collection moves toward a poetic reinterpretation both of and beyond a Roman Catholic sacramental tradition after the Royal Commission - but does not pardon it. Towards the end of the collection the poem Loud honours the voices of all those who cried out and the eloquent remembrance given material expression through the Loud Fence movement. The title of the collection holds the word loud as part of an ongoing story that has been clouded for too long. Faced with the globalisation of violence against humans and the wider Earth community, a key question of our time is: Where can humanity turn for inspiration? Voices in international law, the UN system, labour and social movements, intellectual circles, religious and ethical traditions are calling for a shift from Just War to Just Peace. At the heart of this book is a wider call, for a Just and Ecologically Sustainable Peace. This book reflects the conviction that the arts, literature, activism and scholarly research can together contribute to the kinds of cultural shift requisite for a peace that flows from and extends to human relations with the natural world. Six artworks by peace artist William Kelly and five commissioned poems in response to those works, form the framework of the book. Interspersed with poems are creative prose and short thematic essays (of 1000-1200 words) from selected Indigenous, ecological, feminist and religious scholars and activists. A collection of essays, artworks and poetry by a range of First Nations and religiously inspired peace and environmental activists. It represents a call to recognise the deep implication of cultures of war and climate crisis. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: new. Paperback. Winner of the 2023 ANZATS Award for the Best Monograph by an Established ScholarApplying a re-envisioned, ecological, feminist hermeneutics, this book builds on two important responses to 20th and 21st century situations of ecological trauma, especially the complex contexts of climate change and cross-species relations: first, ecological feminism; second, ecological hermeneutics in the Earth Bible tradition. By way of readings of selected biblical texts, this book suggests that an ecological feminist aesthetic, bringing present situation and biblical text into conversation through engagement with activism and literature, principally poetry, is helpful in decolonizing ethics. Such an approach is both informed by and speaks back to the new materialism in ecological criticism. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.
