Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Essay from the year 2010 in the subject Theology - Systematic Theology, grade: 1, Durham University, language: English, abstract: At its dawn, the twentieth century was hailed as the century of the Church. As a result, in recent years, there has been a renewed interest in the Church, both in terms of its role and functions, but also in terms of its nature and ontological sacramentality. Of particular interest is the emerging concept that the Church may be the primary or primordial sacrament. This understanding, if correct, has considerable implications for traditional models of sacramentality, both in the seven-sacrament tradition within the Roman Catholic Church, and also the understanding of sacramentality represented by Reformed and Protestant models. This essay analyses the theological understanding of the church as a sacramental agent, and explores alternative forms of sacramantality.

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Seminar paper from the year 2005 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Topic: Miscellaneous, grade: A, Concordia University Montreal, course: BA Politics, language: English, abstract: The development of Christianity in Sri Lanka has been a long and complex process. Christianity has been instrumental in the development of modern Sri Lankan politics and culture. In this paper I will attempt to map the development of Christianity on the island and assess its resultant political implications. I will also attempt to prove that Christianity has played a major role in the political development of present day Sri Lankan democracy.I. BackgroundChristian development in Sri Lanka could have started as early as AD c.50 when, according to legend, St. Thomas the Apostle set foot upon the island to preach the message of the gospels.1 Since then, Sri Lanka has experienced several stages of Christian development- which can be loosely mapped as a transition from Roman Catholicism to Modern Denominationalism- primarily orchestrated by the ruling power that happened to be enjoying occupation of the island at the time. Because each of these powers (namely the Portuguese, Dutch and British) attempted to impose their own brand of Christianity on the region and met with varying degrees of success, modern Sri Lankan Christianity is a rich tapestry of denominational beliefs including, in order of primacy, Catholicism (over 85%), Anglicanism, Dutch Reformism and Non- Conformism (including Baptists and American Congregationalists).2 The number of Christians in Sri Lanka is considerable; of 20,064,776 residents, 6.2% (roughly 1.25 million) consider themselves Christian (2001 census data).3 Furthermore, Christians comprised over 10.6% of the population during the high British colonial period (c.1900). Thus, as a large minority group, Christian development inherently affected- and still affects- the development of Sri Lankan politics as a whole. The study of such development is thus important in order to better understand the evolution of Sri Lankan society and politics, and the present political situation of Sri Lanka and its' people.II. StudyIt is possible that St. Thomas the Apostle did actually preach in Sri Lanka. By tradition, it is alleged that he was killed in India, stabbed with a spear sometime around AD 72.41 Jones2 De Sampayo3 CIA World Factbook4 Jones.

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Scientific Essay from the year 2010 in the subject Theology - Historic Theology, Ecclesiastical History, grade: 1, Durham University, language: English, abstract: This paper examines the topic of 7th and 8th century Northumbrian sculptures and what light their study can shed on the theological understandings and priorities of the Northumbrian Church. In recent years it has been recognised that Anglo-Saxon sculpture may provide a critical insight into the life and practice of the Northumbrian church. As a result, the latter half of the twentieth century saw a considerable resurgence of interest in Anglo-Saxon sculpture, particularly that in Northumbria. This has been further reinforced by the fact that Northumbrian sculpture exists in surprising quantity, and some of the earliest and finest examples of Anglo-Saxon stone sculpture are Northumbrian in origin. This paper explores the importance of such sculpture, and analyses contemporary liturgical trends.

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Essay from the year 2008 in the subject Theology - Systematic Theology, grade: 1, Durham University, course: Theology BA, language: English, abstract: Traditional sacramental models have understood that Christian initiation is undertaken through the sacraments of baptism, confirmation and Eucharist, and is only fully complete after the conferral of all three sacramental actions. However, since the Reformation, and particularly over the last century, there has been a movement towards a baptismal ecclesiology which suggests that baptism, in and of itself, represents full initiation into the Church and the Christian faith. This essay will analyse the role of baptism in Christian initiation, and suggest liturgical implications for understanding baptism as fully initiatory into the Christian Church.

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Bachelor Thesis from the year 2009 in the subject Theology - Historic Theology, Ecclesiastical History, grade: First, New College Durham, language: English, abstract: The twelfth century saw dramatic changes in the priorities of the Western Church and its doctrinal emphasis. As a result, this period saw much development in the theory and praxis of Christian theology, ecclesiology and, markedly, liturgy. As well as an increased liturgical centralisation and a vastly heightened emphasis on Eucharistic celebration, the twelfth century also saw a renewed attempt by the Church to include the laity in Eucharistic devotion, although this generally manifested itself in serving to further remove the laity from liturgical rites. The development of Eucharistic liturgy during this period was especially radical and far-reaching. Primarily, such developments concerned celebrative practicalities, although a shift in the Church's theological paradigm also led to critical theological changes. Furthermore, substantial proportions of the alterations to the Eucharistic rite made between 1100-1200 are still in use today, and continue to inform the practical theological expression of the liturgical relationship between Eucharistic rite and ceremony. The legacy of these developments thereby presents a considerable challenge for the contemporary Western Church not only in terms of its worshipping practice, but also its liturgical ethic.

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Bachelor Thesis from the year 2007 in the subject Politics - Miscellaneous, grade: First, Keele University, course: Politics, language: English, abstract: The murder of St. Thomas Becket in 1170 was a significant event in defining the relationship between Church and State in Mediaeval England. It called into question the validity of the King's authority, and the extent to which the Papacy were able to claim political, as well as spiritual, supremacy in England. The murder served to significantly change the relationship between Church and State in England in several ways, and also played a part in bringing about Magna Carta in 1215, the consequences of which are still relevant to English politics today.

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - Recent years have seen a renewed interest in the ontology and function of the Eucharist, as the source and summit of the Church's common life. This book explores the relationship between the Church and the Eucharist, specifically the notion that the Eucharist 'generates' the Church, both through its own realisation and in relation to other sources of the Church's sacramentality. It considers the ecumenical and missiological implications arising from this understanding, and further analyses resultant liturgical implications, specifically focussing on the Church of England's Common Worship rites.

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -Bachelor Thesis from the year 2009 in the subject Theology - Historic Theology, Ecclesiastical History, grade: First, New College Durham, language: English, abstract: The twelfth century saw dramatic changes in the priorities of the Western Church and its doctrinal emphasis. Primarily, such developments concerned celebrative practicalities, although a shift in the Church¿s theological paradigm also led to critical theological changes. Furthermore, substantial proportions of the alterations to the Eucharistic rite made between 1100-1200 are still in use today, and continue to inform the practical theological expression of the liturgical relationship between Eucharistic rite and ceremony. The legacy of these developments thereby presents a considerable challenge for the contemporary Western Church not only in terms of its worshipping practice, but also its liturgical ethic.GRIN Publishing GmbH, Waltherstraße 23, 80337 München 28 pp. Englisch.
